Eolas Faoin Aonach / About the Aonach

Aonach Ceoil Baile Mhúirne was first held in the early 70’s and has been revived

for the past four years. The aim of the Aonach is to have a family fun weekend

of music, song and dance, with the best of entertainment, workshops and

craic.

We kick off the Aonach Ceoil this year with the official opening by Pádraig Ó Sé,

Raidió na Gaeltachta, at the regular Thursday night session in the Mills. Friday

night’s concert in the Ionad Cultúrtha will feature a long awaited solo gig by Jimmy

McCarthy.

Central to the Aonach are the workshops – with classes on the Saturday

from 11.00- 4.00 followed by a session with the participants and the tutors.

Saturday evening’s concert will host all the workshop tutors – Geraldine O

Callaghan, Conal Ó Gráda, Richard Lucey, Cormac de Barra, Muireann Nic

Amhlaoibh and Seosamh Ó Neachtain.

Again this year, we will hold a sean-nós singing competition ‘Corn

an Dr Uí Loingsigh’ for over 18’s. We are holding a new competition

this year for newly composed songs – ‘Corn Uí Fhlannagáin’.

These two competitions will be held on Sunday afternoon

from 1.00 – 4.00 and no doubt about it but there will be a

great afternoon’s entertainment to be had! The Allow

Ceilí Band will have us all dancing for the Sunday pm

Céilí from 5.00 – 8.00. There will be of course plenty

of music to be heard in the local bars that weekend

– with arranged and impromtu sessions

and singing taking place! New to the

Aonach this year is the Walk on Monday

at 12.00 – 3.00 weather permitting naturally!

People can then warm

themselves up with soup and

sandwiches at the end of their

walk sometime in the afternoon

in the Abbey

Hotel, where no

doubt, more tunes

will be heard!

Beidh an t-amhránaí & cumadóir Jimmy Mac Carthy ar stáitse san Ionad Cultúrtha ar an Aoine. Maidir leis na Ceardlanna Ceoil, Rince agus Amhránaíochta, beidh ceoltóirí & amhránaí den scoth ag múineadh sna ceardlanna seo arís i mbliana Richard Lucey (bosca ceoil), Geraldine O Callaghan (fidil), Conal Ó Gráda (fliúit), Cormac de Barra (cruit), Muireann Nic Amhlaoibh (amhránaíocht ar an sean-nóis) & Seosamh Ó Neachtain (rince ar an sean-nóis). Beidh siad go léir ar stáitse le chéile ag ollcheolchoirm an Aonaigh ar an Satharn. Beidh Comórtas Amhránaíochta ar an sean-nóis os cionn 18 bliain d-aois - Corn an Dochtúra Uí Loingsigh ar siúl arís againn i mbliana. Chomh maith le sin, beidh comórtas nua á reáchtáil againn ag Aonach Ceoil na bliana seo – ‘sé sin Corn Uí Fhlannagáin - Comórtas Amhráin Nua-Chumtha.

Is iad na moltóirí a bheidh againn don dá chomórtas seo ná Con Fada Ó Drisceóil (Gradam TG4 Cumadóir na Bliana 2009), Muireann Ní Dhuighneán, & Eilís Maidhcí Uí Shúilleabháin.

Rud nua eile a bheidh ann i mbliana ná Siúlóid an Aonaigh – chun deis a thabhairt do dhaoine áilleacht an cheantair a fheiscint.

This year’s Aonach Ceoil promises to be yet another great one for the locality and for visitors alike.
